A trip to the Farmers Market makes a great weekend activity with friends or family. You can grab a bite to eat and shop the unique finds the markets have to offer. Here are some of Michigan’s best farmer markets:

Lansing City Market
Situated on the Grand River, the market offers kayak, bike and canoe rentals, Michigan-made food items, artisan cheese, fresh flowers, jewelry, Lansing and Michigan-made gifts, souvenirs and a full-service bar and grill. The market is open Tuesday-Friday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Eastern Market
Located in Detroit, it has three primary markets: the Saturday Market, Sunday Street Market and Tuesday Market. Saturday’s feature 225 market vendors, and operates between 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday is a showcase of local artists, cooks, jewelers, musicians and more – all uniquely Detroit and Michigan made. There are also unique events that occur each Sunday and the hours are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tuesday’s, the market is open 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and features less vendors, but also offers cooking demonstrations, the Detroit Public Library Bookmobile and free Zumba and yoga classes.
Gallagher’s Farm Market and Bakery
Gallagher’s is a farm market located in Traverse City that is open daily from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. during the months of July and August, and from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. during the months of June, September and October. Gallagher’s is family owned and operated, stocked with fresh fruits, vegetables and homemade products, such as their infamous fresh-baked cherry pies.
Downtown Marquette Farmers Market
Open May 20^th – December 17^th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market several market vendors, farmers/growers, producers and artists, all Northern Michigan/Michigan-made for your convenience. Flint’s Farmer Market is open year round on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Offering arts and crafts, baked goods, beverages, local cheese/dairy products, flowers and plants, local fruits/vegetables, healthcare, meat/poultry, spices/herbs, wine/beer and includes a couple of restaurants as well.
