  • Your First Steps

    • For their safety, keep children and pets out of the damaged area.
    • Contact a contractor or board-up company if one is needed to protect your property. Your claim representative can provide names of companies in your area.
    • Remove small valuables such as cash and jewelry, or items that may be dangerous, such as guns if you cannot stay in the house.
    • Keep all smoke and fire-damaged items, until your claim representatives advises you otherwise.
    • Do not attempt cleaning until a qualified restoration company inspects the loss. Attempting to clean some items without the proper equipment can do more harm than good.
    • If you have a claim in the winter, it may be necessary to have the water lines in your home drained to prevent freezing and additional loss.
