FAQ - Property Claims What should I do if I have a fire at my home? What should I do if I have smoke damage in my home? What should I do if I have water damage in my home?
a. Flood, surface water or water leaking into the basement; b. Sump pump back-up, unless the policy has the necessary endorsement What should I do if I experience a theft?
What should I do if I experience vandalism or malicious mischief?
Will insurance pay for trees that are blown down in my yard? Wind is not included as a cause of loss under the basic Homeowners policy for trees. Trees blown over by wind are not covered for debris removal either, unless the tree lands on property that is otherwise covered and damages it. Then there would be coverage only to remove the tree from the structure or building, not to haul it away from the premises. For an additional premium, insureds may purchase an endorsement that adds coverage for Tree Debris Removal up to $500 when the damage is caused by windstorm, hail, or the weight of ice, sleet or snow. To see if you have this endorsement, please refer to your policy or contact your agent. If I lose power in my home, will my Homeowners insurance pay for me to stay in a hotel? If there is actual damage to the dwelling from a loss that is covered making it unfit to live in, the Homeowners insurance could cover a reasonable increase in living expenses incurred. It would be available for the shortest time required to repair or replace the damaged property, or to permanently relocate. Loss of power alone is not considered damage to the dwelling. |
