America & Me Essay Contest

America & Me Contest logo Announcing the 41st annual America & Me Essay Contest for Michigan Eighth Grade Students

Now in its 41st year, the annual America & Me Essay Contest encourages Michigan eighth grade students to write about their American heroes, especially the people who have made a big difference in the students' personal lives. Hundreds of thousands of Michigan students have participated in the contest since its inception in 1968.

Prizes include certificates, plaques, medallions, and ten cash awards of $1,000. Top ten finalists also earn a trip to the State Capitol to visit with State Government leaders, be honored at Oldsmobile Park as special guests at a Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball game, and enjoy a luncheon cruise aboard the Michigan Princess Riverboat on the Grand River.

Information about the essay contest is mailed to all public and private school eighth grade English teachers and principals in Michigan. The contest runs from October 12 through November 13, 2009. The Farm Bureau Insurance corporate office in Lansing must receive all entries by November 16, 2009, and all essays must be submitted by the school. The topic of this year's contest is "My Personal Michigan Hero."

As sponsor of the contest, Farm Bureau Insurance has earned 11 national awards from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.
