America & Me Essay Contest

America & Me Contest logo Announcing the winners of the 41st annual America & Me Essay Contest for Michigan Eighth Graders

The America & Me Essay Contest was founded by Farm Bureau Insurance in 1968 to encourage Michigan youth to explore their roles in America's future. Since that time, nearly a half-million Michigan eighth graders have participated in the contest. The 2009-2010 top ten winners competed against over 5,000 other students from nearly 500 Michigan junior highs and middle schools to win their top positions.

The student essays for this, the 41st annual contest, were based on the topic, My Personal Michigan Hero. The final ranking of the top ten winners was determined by a panel of judges made up of Farm Bureau Insurance Executive Vice President Jim Robinson and two of the top ten statewide winner's teachers from the 2008-2009 contest year.

As sponsor of the contest, Farm Bureau Insurance has earned 11 national awards from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.

The top ten winners from this contest will receive their plaques, medallions and a cash award of $1,000 at an awards banquet in Lansing on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. In addition, the top ten finalists will meet with State Government leaders, be honored at Cooley Law School Stadium as special guests at a Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball game, and enjoy a luncheon cruise aboard the Michigan Princess Riverboat on the Grand River.

We are pleased to announce the top ten statewide winners, their rankings, the school they attend and city in which the school is located. As Michigan's Insurance Company, we proudly salute these outstanding Michigan students.
