America & Me Essay Contest
My dad is my personal hero for many reasons. He teaches my brothers and me to be responsible, and he always encourages us to do the best that we can in everything that we do, from sports, to school work, to playing the piano. Dad always has a lot of work to do and he works long hours every day. However, he always takes time away from his work to help my mom, my brothers, and me. He knows how to build and fix almost anything and he teaches us everything that he knows. We do a lot of fun things together. Dad is really nice. Dad teaches my brothers and me to get our work done on time, and encourages us to do the best that we can. He has a lot of work to do, and his farm machinery breaks down often, but he still gets his work done on time. He also encourages us to keep working hard even when we get disappointed. If we lose a game, or make a mistake on a test at school or when we are playing a song, he tells us to keep our heads up and to keep trying hard. He praises us for what we do well. Dad is a farmer and has a lot of work to do, but he stops whatever he is doing whenever someone needs him. He helps out at school when the teacher needs something done and he drives for field trips. He takes time away from his work to take me to doctor appointments and to soccer and basketball practices. He comes to my games, even my away games. Dad helps me with my science fair projects. He has a lot of good ideas and he explains my experiments to me. He makes my school work fun to do. Dad has a lot of talents and by watching him and working with him every day, I am learning how to do a lot of neat things. I helped him build our play center, his barn, and a rabbit cage, replace our upstairs windows, hang drywall, and fix his farm machinery. Doing work with dad is fun. Dad does a lot of fun activities with our family. On Sundays, he takes my brothers and me to town to play basketball with our friends. He plays with us even though his back, shoulders, arms, and knees hurt. He takes us to Pistons games, bowling, and golfing. Dad swims with us and plays basketball and volleyball in the pool. Dad also takes us to the movies, shopping in the city, and out to eat. Dad does a lot for me, my brothers and my mom. These are some of the reasons that my dad is my personal hero. He teaches me a lot and he helps me to be the best that I can be. He cares so much about our family. He is a very nice person. I have a lot of fun with my dad!
